Thank you for coming to my website. Please know that I wouldn’t ask this if I wasn’t in desperate need. So I am reaching out to all my friends, family, and even people I have never met. This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in young adulthood. No one asks for this diagnosis, knowing all that can come with it, but with the support of my family, I have worked through each of the many challenges. I lost my leg in 2013, but I have been doing very well with a prosthetic leg. Unfortunately, now I need a kidney, which they can’t just manufacture for you. My kidneys are shutting down, and I need a kidney transplant to survive. I am currently on daily home dialysis while I wait for a miracle. A living kidney donor is my best chance of living.
I am so fortunate to be the wife of a loving & supportive husband and the mother of an amazing son. Both my husband and son are Firefighter EMTs. I couldn’t be more proud. This has been especially difficult for them. They are dedicated to saving lives every day - strangers who need their help. And they can’t save me. We need your help!
I am a patient at Mass General Hospital in Boston, where the wait for a deceased donor with my blood type match is at least 5 to 6 years. Honestly, I am not sure I have that long. Fortunately, MGH is a National Kidney Registry (NKR) member center hospital that participates in a voucher program. This will allow anyone healthy enough to be a kidney donor to donate on my behalf, regardless if you’re a direct match. This also comes with resources and protections for donors through NKR's Donor Shield.
Since my husband and son are first responders, we are working with EMS Gives Life, a national nonprofit organization that supports living organ donation in the first responder community. EMS Gives Life is helping with my search for a donor and is the contact for anyone interested in becoming my kidney donor or even simply learning more.
Living kidney donors make the best donors!
